Alamance ElderCare, Inc.

 

The staff of Alamance ElderCare brings together a wealth of professional experience, education and expertise to provide services to older persons and their families.  We provide basic Information & Referral on resources for older adults, Assistance as needed to help you connect with services and Care Management services for the frail, older adult who is at high risk for nursing home placement and wishes to remain at home.  Alamance ElderCare is proud to serve older persons and their families in our area as well as assist those who have the responsibility of long distance caregiving.  The staff recognizes the vital role each caregiver plays in helping a loved one to continue to live at home.  The staff provides older persons and their families emotional support, resource information, coordination and monitoring of services based on the specific needs of each individual.  Alamance ElderCare also conducts community education sessions on a variety of subjects of interest to older persons and caregivers.  We work together as a team to coordinate needed services and to fulfill the mission of Alamance ElderCare--to serve as “Seniors’ Link To Services.” 

 

 

Carol Baker, Administrative Assistant

When you call Alamance ElderCare, the very pleasant voice you most often hear first on the other end of the phone is that of Carol Baker.  Carol is our Administrative Assistant.  Carol has been affiliated with the medical field for all of her adult life and has worked in various settings including physician offices, teaching institutions, computer labs and with the media.  Carol is a native of Burlington and after having lived away for many years, has returned to this area within the last year.  Carol provides callers Information & Referral on a variety of resources that are available for older persons, coordinates our office routines and assists with many of the special projects within the agency.

 

 

Rena Bennett, Care Manager

Rena joined the staff of Alamance ElderCare in June of 1994 as the agency’s first Care Manager.  Rena earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from North Carolina State Agricultural & Technical University in Greensboro.  Rena graduated with cum laude honors and is listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges”.  Rena’s prior professional experience includes having been employed for fifteen years as a Care Manager & Unit Manager within the local mental health system. In this position, Rena served developmental disabled children and adults and assessed individual needs, developed service plans and coordinated needed services.  As a Care Manager, Rena works closely with both clients and their families. Being one of Alamance ElderCare’s original three staff persons, Rena notes it has been a joy to see the agency grow and become a valuable community resource.  Rena enjoys singing gospel music and traveling with a gospel choir of which she is a member as well as reading and working in her church.  Rena represents Alamance ElderCare on our county’s SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Committee.

 

 

Deborah Clapp, Care Manager

Debbie, who works part-time, specializes in Care Management for older persons who are enrolled in CAP/DA (Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults).  CAP/DA is a Medicaid waiver program that allows frail individuals receiving full Medicaid to access in-home services, medical supplies and mobility aids.  Debbie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.  Debbie has over nine years experience as a Social Worker.  She began working as a Care Manager with Alamance ElderCare in 1999 after previous professional experience as a social worker for developmentally disabled adults residing in an intermediary care facility.  Debbie is a member of the CAP/DA Advisory Board.

 

 

Brenda Porter, Program Director

One of the three original staff members of Alamance ElderCare, Brenda serves as Program Director for the agency.  Brenda received a Bachelor of Science from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and a Master of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Brenda’s past professional experience includes teaching and coordinating special activities and events for children and adults with special needs.  Brenda also served for five years as the treatment team leader for residents of two intermediary care facilities.  Brenda has provided consulting services in recreation therapy. She also serves as a consultant in aging program/service development.  A member of the Alamance County Planning Committee on Services to the Elderly, the Alamance Regional Medical Center Geriatric Steering Committee, HomeCare Providers Advisory Board and the Senior Center Advisory Committee, Brenda also co-facilitates ARMC’s Community CareWays Team.
